Tesla from the USA: Model 3 and Model Y price, duty and charging

The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are among the electric cars most often brought from the USA. US-market Teslas are built in the USA, so from 1 July 2026 they pay 0% EU duty. Before you bid, know a few things about the battery, charging and software.

Duty and origin

The VIN of a US-built Tesla starts with 5YJ (Fremont, California) or 7SA (Austin, Texas). These cars pay 0% EU duty; 21% VAT is paid. More in A car from the USA without customs duty.

Battery and damage

  • An electric car with a "Flood" (submerged) title cannot be shipped by sea, so we cannot bid on such cars.
  • Undercarriage damage may affect the battery: judge such cars with particular care.
  • With a salvage title the manufacturer's warranty often no longer applies – plan the repair in advance.
  • The history and mileage are shown by a Carfax report (5 €).

Charging and software

US Teslas have the NACS charging connector, while Europe uses Type 2 and CCS2. An adapter or a switch to the European connector solves this. Some features (maps, language, part of the driver assistance) may work differently in Europe – ask a Tesla service centre about them.

Shipping and price

Shipping an electric car costs about 250 USD more because of the dangerous goods rules. The full price with auction fees, shipping and VAT is on the vehicle page under "Price in Lithuania".
