A pickup from the USA: RAM 1500, F-150, Tundra. What it costs to bring one
Full-size US pickups – RAM 1500, Ford F-150, Toyota Tundra, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra – are rare and expensive in Europe, so a US auction is often the cheapest way to get one.
Which pay no duty
Many pickups are built in the USA, but not all. Always look at the first character of the VIN:
- RAM 1500 (VIN 1C6), Ford F-150 (1FT), Toyota Tundra (5TF) – usually built in the USA, 0% duty.
- Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Silverado are also built in Mexico: if the VIN starts with 3, the 0 % does not apply. The duty then depends on how customs classifies the pickup: as a passenger car 10 %, as a goods vehicle 22 % (EU customs tariff TARIC). The classification depends on the design (cab, seats, cargo bed), so check with us before bidding.
- The heavy RAM 2500 and 3500 are often built in Mexico – check the VIN.
Shipping
A large pickup takes more space in the container, so it costs more to ship than a sedan. The exact amount for a specific car is on its page and in the calculator.
Registration in Lithuania
In Lithuania a pickup can be registered as a passenger car (M1) or a light commercial vehicle (N1) – it depends on the build and the certification. For companies this matters for VAT. The permitted weight of heavy pickups (e.g. RAM 2500, F-250) can exceed 3.5 t, which would require a C category licence – check before you buy.
What to check
- The frame and underbody: pickups from northern states may be rusty.
- The damage type and whether the car is "Run and Drive" (see auction statuses).
- A Carfax report (5 €).
Where to find them
On the home page – the row "Pickups". In the search: RAM, Ford, Toyota.
