A motorcycle from the USA: duty, shipping and registration
Copart and IAAI sell many motorcycles – from sport bikes to Harley-Davidsons. You can bring one over just like a car; only the duty, the shipping and the requirements differ a little.
Duty and VAT
- Motorcycles made in the USA – 0 % duty (from 1 July 2026, Regulation (EU) 2026/1455). US production shows in the first character of the VIN: 1, 4 or 5.
- Made elsewhere: 50–250 cm³ – 8 %, over 250 cm³ – 6 % (EU customs tariff TARIC).
- VAT – 21 %, on the price with the auction fees, shipping and duty.
Shipping
- Ocean to Klaipėda: from the New York and Georgia ports – 350 $, from Texas – 350 $, from California – 450 $.
- Trucking to the US port – as for a car from the same yard, export documents – 150 $.
- Port services in Klaipėda – 370 €.
- The calculator and each motorcycle's page show the total for a particular motorcycle.
Registering in Lithuania
- A motorcycle from the USA also goes through the technical inspection for individual approval: noise, lighting, a km/h speedometer and the identification plate are checked (see Technical inspection).
- The registration (pollution) tax does not apply to motorcycles: it is paid only for passenger cars (M1) and light commercial vehicles (N1).
- Whether a motorcycle can be registered depends on the US title type (see Salvage, Clean, Rebuilt).
Tips
Look through all the photos and the status – whether the motorcycle is "Run and Drive" (see Auction statuses). For example, Harley-Davidson motorcycles in the search.
