A hybrid from the USA: RAV4 Hybrid, Camry Hybrid and the battery

Origin and duty

The same model is built in several countries, so look at the first character of the VIN:

• The US-market Toyota Camry Hybrid is usually built in the USA (VIN 4T1) – 0% duty.
• The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is built in the USA (4T3), Canada (2T3) and Japan (JT) – 0% duty only if US-built.
• Lexus hybrids are often built in Canada or Japan – 10% duty.

Battery

• A hybrid with a "Flood" title cannot be shipped by sea.
• An impact from below or behind may damage the battery – judge with care.
• The history is shown by a Carfax report (5 €).

Shipping and charging

Lithium batteries make shipping a hybrid about 250 USD dearer. Plug-in hybrids from the USA have the J1772 connector – in Europe you will need an adapter to Type 2.
