Auction statuses: Run and Drive, Starts, Stationary – what they mean

The auction states whether the car started and moved when it arrived at the yard. It is important information, but not a guarantee.

Statuses

  • Run and Drive – when it arrived at the yard, the car started (also with a jump box), went into gear and moved forward; IAAI also checks reverse and the steering. Green in our search.
  • Starts / Engine Start Program – on arrival the engine started and ran at idle, but driving was not checked. Amber.
  • Stationary / Won't Start – does not start, has engine damage or was not tested. Red.
  • Enhanced Vehicles – the seller let Copart prepare the car (wash, vacuum, protective cover); it says nothing about the technical condition and does not guarantee the preparation was done.

Why it is not a guarantee

The status is checked only once, when the car arrives. Before the auction the car may stand for weeks, the battery may run flat, and gearbox or engine faults may not show during a short move. The auction is not liable for this.

Tips

  • A "Run and Drive" car is usually worth more, so it often costs more.
  • Look at the keys information too (Keys: Yes/No).
  • In our search cards and on the vehicle page the status is colour-coded.
